Food review: Bornga @ Suntec city, Korean food at its best

Bornga is led by korean renowned celebrity chef Piak Jong Won, serving a variety of authentic Korean cuisine. The signature dish will be the Woosamyeop, thinly sliced beef with their special marinate and BBQ over charcoal flame.

Mr Piak Jong Won

The restaurant is usually packed to the brim and I will recommend making a reservation in advance. Otherwise be prepared to stand in line for at least 30mins especially if one is going on the weekends. Private rooms are also available if you are coming in a large group.

If soju is your thing, you will be pleased to know that price of a bottle is only at $11, cheaper than the supermarket!

We ordered the signature Woosamyeop(beef) and Samgyupsal(pork belly) for our BBQ items. BBQ comes with a variety of ban-chan or side dishes which are refillable. We are first served the cold soup which tasted unusual for my Singaporean taste buds. The soup contains some sea weed and cucumber and tasted a little sour which i guess is suppose to serve as an appetiser.

Cold soup

Be prepared to order at least 2 meat items if you are considering the bbq as the norm in the restaurant. The meats are not the cheapest in town considering that you are paying the same kind of prices of a buffet option in other establishments but one must bear in mind that you are here for quality instead of quantity. We cant help but noticed that the restaurant has hoses hanging above each table. These hoses are effective and helps patrons to not smell like you just had bbq if one have after dinner plans.

Woosamyeop and Samgyupsal 8.5/10

Service was very good and one can engage in conversation while the staff grill the meat. They will also cut them up into bite sizes to serve you. You can eat the meat on its own but i will prefer to wrap them up with the different lettuce provided, smack on some ssamjang(soy bean paste) and stuff the entire wrapped leaf into my mouth in one go. If one is more adventurous, you can add some garlic into your wrap.

Side dishes

A long plate of vegetables also welcomed us and we can wrap our meats with different greens.

Variety of greens

To compliment our BBQ items, we ordered Budae Jjigae aka army stew and also Haemul Pajeon aka seafood pancake. The Budae Jjigae is a little spicy with lots of ingredients like kimchi, rice cakes. luncheon meat, sausage and cheese. The stew is comfortable enough to feed 3-4 guests.

Budae Jjigae (Army Stew) 7.5/10

Haemul Pajeon (Seafood pancake) 7.5/10

The seafood pancake was delightful packing in squid and chives. The pancake was good by itself but do not forget delicious dipping sauce.

Overall the service and food is excellent and i will definitely be back for more if I am craving for some korean BBQ.

  1. The staff are inexperience, they served raw or overcooked meat. Very bad service and beef tasted like rubber. Very disappointed with the food.

  2. I am sorry to hear about your experience. This is unacceptable especially when we pay a premium for our meats! I guess the difficulty to hire local staff is one of the cause.
