Food review: Tanjong Pocha @ Tanjong Pagar - Fancy Korean Cuisine in the heart of Town

Located along the busy Tanjong Pagar district where there is a abundance of quality korean food is the Tanjong Pocha, We gave it a try to see if it was able to hold itself among the crowd of korean restaurants.

Right smack in the middle of Tanjong Pagar, it is a 3 minutes walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT station. The restaurant has a more refined ambience compared to its noisy neighbours Wabar and is a great restaurant to dine if you are looking for a quiet evening.

Service is great and we started the evening with a watermelon soju where the soku is served in a craved up watermelon. The drink was definitely strong and came beautifully decorated with flowers surrounding its sides. The soju-watermelon mix is a great concoction and you can also enjoy some of the soju infused watermelon which provided a good buzz after several rounds.

As with most korean dinners, you will be able to enjoy a myriad of textures and flavours from the various side dishes. Tanjong Pocha did not disappoint and provided us with plenty of choices. We were also given a bowl of chilled soup which is perfect to fight off the humidity of the Singapore weather.

To go with our soju, we had the odeng tang which is a big pot of korean fish cakes. The soup is kept warm with a portable stove and was also spiced with chilli added directly into the soup. Flavour is very nice but it can be spicy for some. The generous serving of ingredients like eggs, tofu, flower crabs and prawns combined well with the korean fish cakes to provide different textures and a nice unami taste. Every spoonful of the warm soup sent waves of pleasure that was very much appreciated by my tummy.

I wanted to get some carbs to help absorb some of the alcohol in my tummy and went with my favourite Jajiangmyun. Taste was exactly the same as the one i had in Korea and the noodles was bouncy. Mixing the noodles exposed a boiled egg that was hidden under the blanket of cucumbers which in all provided very nice textures. I enjoyed the dish very much but will appreciated slightly more sauce as i had to ration them at the tail end of the meal.

It is definitely not the cheapest meal around but the amount of food we ordered was enough for 3 people. We left full to the brim with plenty of unfinished food. The wonderful odentang and delicious watermelon soju left lasting memories and will be something i go back for.
