Food review: Koryo Won @ Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Tasty Korean Cuisine

Koryo Won is a upscale korean restaurant and they have several branches in Kuala Lumpur. We decided to make this restaurant our first stop for our KL trip. Read on to find out more.

The restaurant decoration resembles that of a Hanok, which are trandtional korean houses which is interesting and reminds me of my past Korea trip.

We started simple and had honey citron and honey plum tea.

Ban chan were also presented to us and they are all delicious! My favourite are the Kimchi and the spicy fried cuttlefish slices.

Our main was a steamboat like dish known as Hae Mool Jeon Gol which is a seafood stew. Korean stews are generally catergorised into 2 types, Jeon Gol and Jijjae. Jeon Gol is more elaborate in their ingredients and was originally a dish for upper class koreans or members of the Royal Court.

Hae Mool Jeon Gol 6.5/10

The Hae Mool Jeon Gol was rather spicy and contains many different ingredients from vegetables, mushrooms, tofu and seafood. We noticed a whole yellow croaker fish, lots of prawns, octopus and also flower crabs. It was indeed elaborate but was too spicy for my liking. The prawns were medium size but not the freshest.

Kimchijeon 6.8/10

To go along with our stew, we had the korean pizza known as Kimchijeon. The Kimchijeon is crisy and contains a substantial amoun of Kim Chi. The soy based dipping suace went very well with it.

It was an enjoyable meal and we love the sides dishes more than the stew which was way too spicy. If you are keen to try, do request to have the spice turn down several notches!
