Food review: J65 international buffet - seafood buffet with lobsters, crabs, oysters, sashimi and more! updated Dec 2016

J65 is one of the best and grossly underrated buffets in Singapore. Its is located in the outskirts of town in Hotel Jen Tanglin and provides superior value for the priced paid. An absolute steal in our opinion! Read on to find out why.

On weekends, they are serving a scrumptious seafood buffet boasting lobster, oysters among many others. Yes you read right, lobsters and oysters!

There are numerous seats available and also an alfresco dining area if the air conditioned area is full. The restaurant is suitable for large groups and perfect for family gatherings with both long and round tables available.

The hotel buffet commence at 6pm and ends 9.30pm which means 3.5h to stuff yourself silly. People can be seen wondering around the hotel lobby eagerly waiting for the buffet to start.

There are several nice seating areas outside the restaurant to rest your legs.

It is highly recommended to arrive along to enjoy the best of the buffet as some items will be replaced by their next best alternative. An example will be the boston lobsters being replaced with their claws.

The restaurant serves a variety of cuisines with the core theme being local delights. Favorites like chicken rice, oyster omelette, satay, chilli crab, popiah are all available. Some of the mentioned are freshly prepared and you can have them piping hot,

An extravagant whole salmon was among one of the cooked food and it was gorgeous!

Some of the other cooked items like braised pork belly and tempura prawns are delicious!

The best of the cooked food will definitely be the Singapore chilli crabs. The sauce is great and not too spicy. It will be awesome if we had some fried buns to dip on the tasty sauce.

When the crabs are out, they will be replaced by lobster claws which are equally awesome!

Various salad are available to provide the healthier options.

The most popular section will definitely be the seafood corner. The restaurant is very generous with its offerings and constantly replenish the popular items like oysters and lobsters.

As you can seem we went crazy at the lobsters and oysters!

For Japanese cuisine lovers, some sushi and salmon sashimi is available. The sashimi is fresh and thickly sliced.

The live cooking station changes its menu for noodles on a daily basis and you can also order roast meats to go with the flavorful chicken rice!

The satay is freshly prepared and very popular among the patrons.

There are also DIY stations to make your own Kuah pie tee and rojak.

Which we had fun making some for ourselves.

Whats a buffet restaurant without desserts? J65 went over the top with premium ice creams and also durian puree that tasted like ice cream.

Various other desserts include cakes and puddings.

Fresh fresh to wash down all the goodies!

Our selection from the impressive array of desserts.

Coffee and tea making facilities are self served. Cold beverages that are self served for that night was rose syrup and ice tea.

For this awesome buffet, you will think we had to pay top dollar to enjoy all these goodies. But, the price per pax was an super awesome priced of only $55++ per person!!! Its a super incredible deal and in my opinion the best value buffet there is in Singapore! Entertainer app users have a one for one dinner buffet which means it only cost $33 per pax to enjoy the above. An absolute steal!!! Grab your phones and make your reservations now.

[REVISTED DEC 2016]

The awesome seafood experience we had at J65 brought back many fond memories and we cant help but pay a return visit. This time we tried their festive International Buffet happening from 24 Nov - 30 Dec priced at $65++, a $10 premium on top of their usual dinner price.

Being Xmas season, some new offering will definitely be the Xmas goodies like turkey and ham. The usual seafood offerings remained up for grabs and are definitely the more popular dishes.

For this visit, we noticed something extra in the seafood section which are the Alaskan King crab legs. These are snapped up quickly. The oysters remain plump and of very decent size.

The Boston lobsters are much larger than the ones we had in our first visit. It was a joy to pry the thick chunk of lobster meat out of their shell. These run out quickly be sure to be early to eat your fill!

The Chili crabs remained awesome and it was a delight to devour the crab claws with the sweet and spicy sauce.

Xmas items include the turkey which was tender and you have a few selection of sauces to go with.  My favorite was the Cranberry.

I found the lamb roast to be a tad dry which made me reach out for my drink.

The hams were tasty and I recommend them.

Apart from the savories, there were an increase in the dessert lineup with sweet dreams that reminds you of Santa.

My favourite was always the thick and creamy Durian pengat which I could not stop myself from coming back for seconds.

Service quality improved this time probably due to the fact that table was right beside the service crew counter. Empty plates were cleared promptly so we can return with more new food. The Xmas offerings did not pique my interest due to lack of quality so the increased price feel slightly unjustified. The seafood items were definitely larger and the addition of Alaskan king crabs made me feel bit better.

On the whole, I enjoyed my dining experience and my recommendation is to be there during the start of the buffet to fully enjoy the items on offer. Also, definitely make reservations to avoid disappointment.

    1. Hi Linette, the prawns were of decent quality during my 2 visits. For lobster, my first visit was slightly better than the second. Oysters were good throughout. Sashimi was average. I do like they were constantly refilled but do head down at buffet start time(6pm) as when lobster tails are snapped up, the restaurant will replace them with claws.
