Food review: Bayswater kitchen @ Keppel bay Habourfront ~ Waterfront Seafood dining

Bayswater kitchen is the new brainchild of Prive group which replaces the defunct prive grill. Located in an island of its own, the restaurant lets you forget abut the hustle and bustle of city life and grants you the view of expansive marina where the rich dock their yachts. We head over to check out the place after some shopping at Vivocity.

Despite being an island in itself, heading to Keppel bay is not as daunting as it sounds. There is a link bridge connecting the main island which is right behind the Caribbean condominum.

Directions

If you are coming from Vivocity, head towards harbourfront center along Telok Blangah road. Cross the street and continue straight towards the condos. Make a left after the first condo into Keppel Bay drive and continue straight along the link bridge. Your journey will take around 8-minutes which is a nice stroll before your meal.

There are several ways to enter the restaurant which can be quite confusing. One of which will the main entrance where you have to pass Prive restaurant. This is where the Maitre D will be standing.

Also, there are many of such staircases leading to the restaurant along the marina where you can waltz in. This is the way we came and ended up in the middle of nowhere. We eventually went to the main entrance and got our reservation confirmed from the Maitre D.

We were lead to our table which had very nice and comfortable seats. The setting is amazing and nothing short of what a fine dining establishment will do. I really like the use of different coloured napkins for the gentleman and the lady. A little disappointing is that the fact that the napkin had a strong smell of detergent as we use it to dap our mouth.

Water is not served FOC, instead patrons pay $1 for free flow of  Nordaq water which is essentially filtered tap water. Nordaq claims that after a sip of their water, your taste buds will magically be able to appreciate the flavours of food and wine better. Personally I did not feel too much of a difference with the food but I did find that the water tasted better than regular tap water. You can read more about Nordaq here if you are interested.

The $1 is quite well spent as I never had to pour my water when my cup runs low, the attentive service staff will always be ready to top up my glass. A sight of good training and exemplary service. That being said, such service may wane when the restaurant gets busy.

You are probably not here to read about the water so lets go back to talk about the restaurant. There is an indoor seating and alfresco dining area. The alfresco seating areas will give patrons a much better view of the marina and huge industrial fans cool you down.

I love the blue and white colour scheme which suits the surrounding well. The lush greenery and aesthetically pleasing landscape makes it a great place for couples.

The restaurant have a decent bar and how nice it will be to chill by these seats...

... and have a view of this.

That should be more than enough to give you a glimpse of how to wow your date but if that is still not enough, when the sun sets, the friendly service staff will light up the candles on each and every table so you can have a candlelit dinner while gazing at the stars... if it is not too cloudy.

Lets talk about appeatisers now. Given we have a huge seafood feast to look forward too, we did not go overboard and just got the chicken liver parfait to start. You get freshly toasted sourdough and a decent spread of liver parfait to smear onto the crispy bread. A great start to our meal.

Every bite ends with a satisfying crunch!

Before our mains arrived, we were presented with a pail for our fisherman feast comprising of bibs, wet wipes and a very cool looking crab cracker. In it is also a card that informs patrons that we can keep the shells and have the restaurant pack them home for us. They will then provided a recipe for us to make a delicious lobster broth. Nice gesture!

Our mains soon arrived and it is the fisherman's feast comprising one half of a Boston lobster, some mussels, asari clams, large prawns, fish meat served over freshly made linguine. The meal is a feast for the senses as our eyes lit up in delight over the array of fresh seafood. Our taste buds danced with job with the tasty food as we indulge in the critters and filled up tummies with the linguine that is cooked over seafood stock.

Check out the size of the lobster! Lobster meat is not only found in the tail and claw but we had chunks mixed in the linguine.

We had more fun than use for the crab crackers,

The restaurant is great for a couple looking for a romantic date and also works wonders for friends looking for a place to gather over great food. With the atmosphere and the service excellent, there is few reason not to head down for good seafood. Thumbs up from us!
