Food review: Mujigae Cihampelas walk Bandung ~ Indonesian rendition of Korean cusine

The korean wave has shown its might and extended its reach into the West Java archipelago. Korean restaurants, unheard of in the past, has started sprouting out along the trendy districts, attracting crowds to sample what their favuorite Oppas and Unnis tastebuds are used to. Mujigae is one of them that is located in one of hippest part of the city in Cihampelas Walk and we made this restaurant our first meal of our trip.

Mujigae is very easy to spot with its signboard sticking out into the streets. The welcoming facade makes passerby stop to check the menu.

Interiors are brightly decorated and there is 2 floors to cater to the crowds.

We sat on the 2nd floor after climbing up the graffiti lined steps and was welcomed by large screens blaring out the latest MTVs from the hottest korean idols. The atmosphere is very casual and there were good use of floor standing mirrors to give the illusion of a much larger space. Tables were arranged to face the huge screens and there are also communal like long tables which is were we sat. The restaurant definitely caters to the Teenagers and I can see it as a popular hangout place after school

The restaurant certainly caters to tourist with an easy to understand guide (minimal English) on how to place your food which is basically using an ipad system.

We did not waste time to quench our thirsts and ordered the refreshing honey citrus tea which came in a vase like container.

As we are familiar with Korean food, there is no trouble to oreder. The dishes are rightfully named using their Korean names but the description is basically only available in Behasa. The saving grace is the pictures can guide you.

We order the Pajeon for sharing which is basically a spring onion pancake. The dish that arrived turned out to be more like crispy fish cakes than Pajeon. It was not bad but certainly not what we were expecting

The missus ordered topokki which came in a nice pan with a sad looking side of kimchi. Taste wise, it was certainly not Korean but I will put it as Korean-inspired. Spice level is somehow heightened and rather overpowering.

I had the budaejigae which is the Korean army stew containing spam, minced meat among many other ingredients. Ramyeon came included but being a Muslim country, pork products are definitely off the menu which probably kept the dish away from what it is supposed to taste. Once again, the spiciness is off the charts.

In all, I think the restaurant serves Korean inspired food that catered to the local tastebuds. It does not taste too bad but just not what we were expecting. The food was much too spicy for our liking and cater more to the local taste buds. Price wise, it is quite reasonable for the price that we paid.
