Food review: J-Story @ East Point Mall

J-Story is your friendly neighborhood korean restaurant serving simple everyday dishes. They have various kinds of stews and also serve ramyeon. The restaurant is simple and for kimchi lovers, their kimchi taste great and is free flow!

Missus and I arrived at the restaurant around 645pm on a weekday evening to an almost full restaurant. We are still lucky to be able to get one of the last tables. A busy restaurant signify good food so we held high hopes for our dinner.

There are no buttons to press which have become a commonplace in korean restaurants when calling for service but we still managed to get the attention of the service staff easily. Our food also arrived very promptly in about 10 minutes after ordering which impressed the both of us.

One of the good reasons why the restaurant was popular was that they have free flow of 3 ban chans(side dishes). There is the cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi and shredded cabbage with salad sauce. The tasty ban chan seems to be made by restaurant instead of those run-of-the-mill that one can purchase in supermarkets. Kimchi lovers like me can rejoice with the free flow of kimchi and need not feel shy of asking the service crew for seconds.

We can also help ourselves with the free flow miso soup but taste wise is not so inspiring.

For our mains, we ordered ham and sausage ramyeon and missus had their Broccoli and shrimp porridge. To go along with our mains, we had the steam egg which often gives me the nostalgic feeling of having home cooked food. Taste wise, the ramyeon feels like what we can get in food courts but ingredients given were generous. Missus porridge was passable with a good amount of broccoli and medium size shrimps. The steam egg also did not have any wow factor but made up for its shortcomings with quantity.

 Broccoli and shrimp porridge 6.5/10

Ham Sausage Ramyeon 6/10

Steam egg 6/10

Overall, we felt that the food tasted like healthy home cooked food and was slightly better than food court standards. The redeeming factor will be the free flow of side dishes which tasted good. Price wise, I feel it is reasonable and I will not mind coming back if I wish to get away from the crowds in the food courts.
