Hotel Review (ACCOR) Mercure Bugis Signature loft room ~ loft style spaces in the thick of all the actions

Mercure Bugis is a beautiful 4 star hotel situated in the Bugis district where the young and stylish hang out. The hotel is accessible by a host of MRT (train) lines making exploring the entire Singapore a breeze. We stayed in the signature Loft style rooms much like Studio M and check our the rest of our review to find out how enjoyable it was.

The addition of Mercure Bugis spruce up the vicinity which contains mostly older buildings. While it is not any skyscraper, the sights of a new building which commenced operation in June 2016 added much life to the cultural and shopping district known for its temples and shopping street.

We arrived at the check in counter at 2pm to a relatively busy reception. There is no dedicated queue for accor members like the Novotel Clark Quay but there are signs to show that the Accor membership is accepted.

The swanky reception area is brightly lit and stylishly designed. The check in was not the fastest but our patience was rewarded with a 5pm late check out the next day courtesy of our Gold membership. This effectively grants us a total of 27h stay for our staycation which is an awesome deal. The use of scent marketing with the pleasant aromas added to our plesant experience at the lobby and reception area.

While the missus was checking in, I check out the various spaces in the fabulous lobby. The furniture had a very nice decorative effect and gives the hotel a very boutique feel which we absolutely adore.

I love the dining table setting which will not be out of place in a posh home.

Work stations are available in case you have the need to work on a computer.

The many decorative pieces around the lobby make me want to take a closer look at them. The effort to spruce up the lobby really leave guests with a great first impression.

For being awesome Gold members from the Le Accor program, we will upgraded to the Signature Loft rooms that were one category up from the leading category we booked. Exiting the lifts, you will notice that clear glass panels are not good enough for the hotel and they have to use patterned glass panels matching the carpet (not clearly visible in picture). A very nice thought into the design in my opinion and adds to the wow factor.

Our journey to our rooms allow us to admire the various art pieces making the short walk very pleasant.

"High ceilings" was the expression both the missus and I exclaimed as we entered the room. The space accorded to us was much like the one in Studio M but much better designed. The colour scheme was vibrant and warm which made the room very inviting. The grey sofa bed will provide room for a third person which helps for cost conscious travelers.

Before we check out the rest of the rooms, we opened up our welcome package which gives a snapshot of what we can expect for our membership.

Some chocolates were given as part of  the welcome package but your mileage may vary as we did not always get these for our subsequent stays.

Similar with Studio M, the desk extends to the perimeter of the room facing the windows. Business travelers will appreciate the large space to work on these excel sheets.

Travelers will be happy to save a few bucks with the free smart phone which provides free calls and internet access so no need to get a travel sim.

A common gripe about hotels when I travel is not having bottled water in the room and Mercure Bugis is kind enough as most of the Singapore hotels do to give us 2 bottles.

Looking at the other parts of the first floor, you will find one of the LED smart tvs below the staircase.

Nothing to shout about with tea from Dilmah but it was nice a few variety were provided. The inclusion of the Nespresso machine is a nice touch.

The mini bar came in a filled condition which is quite rare these days in most of the other 4 star properties.

The wash basin is in kind of an open concept and is practically the first fixture you see upon entering

We like the the amentites were stacked nicely with a platform of its own. The items provided were quite standard fare but the usual conditioner is missing. A conditioning shampoo is provided instead which does not go down well in my books.

There is no wardrobe and your clothing are hang just beside the wash basin.

Behind the sink, you will find tiny cubicles for the toilet and shower area. For claustrophobic people, i dint think you can stand staying in these tiny area for an extended amount of time.

As with newer establishments, the rain shower is a mainstay feature. For our first stay, the water from the shower goes very hot suddenly so something to be careful about. We did not encounter this problem with our subsequent stay.

With the first floor there, we move up the stairs to check out our sleeping quarters.

A smaller smart TV from Samsung is there to entertain us as we lie in bed

Our Queen size bed is rather comfortable with the linen nice and fresh. The bedding area does not receive much natural light and the LEDs at the bedside helps guest in their reading.

At the corner of the bed is when you will find another phone and also an alarm should you need it.

From the bedding area, you can see the intricate work done to decorate the room.

Last but not least, the view outside is nothing to shout about. A concrete jungle of old buildings.

Seems like we covered what the room has to offer and lets move on to check out the other cool areas of the hotel. Our first stop is the rooftop garden which is beautifully designed with great looking furniture.

That being said, with all the sweltering heat our weather brings, I am not sure if any one will stay here to bask in the sun for an extended amount of time. Plenty of flora and fauna helps to keep the surface temperature down but I dont think the place will be more useful apart from instagramming those #OOTD shots.

We really need to cool down after hanging out at the roof deck and decided to head to the pool area. Towers are located at the lift area in case you got too excited and miss them while heading to the pool.

Following the hip concept of the hotel, many cool resting spots appears at the pool which is perfect to wind down with a beer and chill.

To keep us cool and relaxed, there is a jacuzzi for those jets of water to massage your sore spots.

Not forgetting the kids, there is a wade infinity pool. As there is no life guard and the material of the floor can be a little slippery, adult supervision is highly recommended.

For the grown ups, there is a bigger infinity pool which is 1.2m deep to swim and have fun in. Point to note is that during peak periods, some pesky children can be seen jumping into the pool and splashing water all over which kind of spoils the experience especially for couples looking to enjoy a quiet staycation.

Before dinner, we check out the gym which was puny and will at best fit 3 person comfortably. It is not the most well equipped so those probably only good for those keep to the threadmill.

After dinner, we head down to the bar to enjoy our welcome drinks courtesy of our gold membership in the Accor program. You exchanged a coupon with your membership level indicated to the corresponding drink it entitles.

We absolutely adore the beautiful bar which changes colour like those mood lighting lamps. The bar is not busy and have a relaxed atmosphere perfect for a drink.

For Platinum members, you are able to choose every item in the menu while the rest cannot try the Singapore Sling. The menu is not too shabby and I like that we can exchange for some cocktails unlike the customary wine or beer for alcoholic drinks.

We ended the night with a tequila sunrise and paradise which helped us relax as we ease in to the night.

UPDATE JAN 2018
Welcome drinks are only left with beers, wine, juices and coffee/tea. No more cocktails Boo!!

Breakfast the next morning was a rather chaotic affair. The restaurant is not particularly large and queues formed during the peak periods so it is recommended to wake up bit early for the best experience. Have a look of some snippets of what to expect on food offerings.

After breakfast, you can also check out the outdoor garden located at the same floor. Have fun snapping pics with the manicured greens and funky seats.

Wifi speed is excellent and those who cannot live without their netflix will have no issue streaming content.

The great location and service makes the hotel a great choice for travelers and also those on a vacation. Enough sleeping space on the loft rooms for 3 person, this hotel is great value to explore Singapore. With the food options from cafes, hawker centers to restaurant minutes away, you will never have to go hungry even in the wee hours of the night with 24h establishments nearby. The only complaint I have is the tiny shower stalls and also the busy restaurant during breakfast.
