Food review: Danro - Collagen steamboat @ Bugis Junction

Danro bugis, part of the MOF establishment that serves reasonable quality Japanese cuisine at pocket friendly prices. After hearing that they serve collagen hotpot similar to Bijin Nabe, Missus and I decided to give it a go.

We reach the restaurant at around 7pm on a Friday evening and restaurant was almost full house. We managed to clear the short queue in about 10mins which was great. At Bijin Nabe, you will be expected to queue more than 1.5h to try the amazing pot of collagen soup.
Collagen :)

Fresh Ingredients

We order the Christmas special set that came with a generous servings of vegetables, some seafood and 4 lumps of minced meat. We were also able to select ramen or udon to go with meal and we promptly selected our favorite ramen.  The prawns provided were "de-shelled" leaving only the head and tail end which was a nice touch for those whom are more lazy.

De-shelled Prawns

We were offered to try the soup by the waiter before the rest of the ingredients went into the pot. It came with a nice flavor but was a little too salty for my liking. Half a chicken came together cooked in the pot and we were encouraged to have them first and allow the rest of the ingredients to simmer in the pot. Some yuzu flavored sauce was finally stirred into the soup which later gave some tangy taste which missus and I gave a thumbs up for the taste.

  Slow cooked chicken. Yum!!

The Christmas set also came with a  2 serving of tuna, salmon and swordfish sashimi that was thickly sliced which made it good value for money. The only gripe I have was that the sashimi took a great deal of time to arrive and only came towards the tail end of our meal. I will very much prefer to enjoy the cold texture of raw fish before i dig in to the hot bowl of collagen soup.

Sashimi

Overall, the food was good but for those familiar with Bijin Nabe, i feel the quality of Bijin Nabe was a touch better with more interesting ingredients but that being said, we would not mind having the collagen hotpot at Danro again. Service at Danro can also be improved as some service staff appears to be rather new and are not aware of the menu and seem rather confused at times. This happened when we ask for our sashimi and 2 plates were brought to our table which 1 of them was taken back in the end.

 BURP!!!
