Food review: 328 Katong Laksa

One of Singapore's iconic dish is the laksa. Laksa is a noodle dish that is from the Peranakan cusine which have a rich heritage in Singapore. It is typically served with thick white bee hoon which is otherwise known as rice vermicelli and a mixture of prawns, fish cake, cockles, tau pok(fried bean curd).
In my opinion no one does it better than the famous katong laksa situated in a laid back neighbourhood along East Coast Road. If one have a penchant for spicy food, this restaurant is a must visit for tourists during their stay in Singapore.

There are 2 seating areas in this restaurant, one being an al fresco setting and you can also choose the air conditioned area. I will recommend to have your table in the air conditioned environment especially so, if you perspire a lot when consuming spicy food.

Upon entering the restaurant, one will be welcomed by the strong aroma of the laksa and cannot help but notice the numerous newspaper clippings and also photographs of celebrities from all over the world, used as the wallpaper on the restaurant walls. With Gorden Ramsey's endorsement on the dish, one can be guarantee for a treat! This is a no frills restaurant so one is expected to self serve and to find a table of your own,

The laksa come in 2 sizes, $5 for small bowl and $8 for the larger version. We ordered 2 small bowls together with otah which is basically spicy fish paste wrapped in banana leaf to go with our meal. To wash down all the glorious broth, we went with the lime juice. The laksa is served with fish cake, prawns, cockles and garnished with laksa leaf shavings.

The interesting part is that restaurant only provides spoon and no other utensils for this dish. The spoon will definitely not be the utensil of choice when consuming noodles but fret not, the noodles have been cut into smaller sizes so the spoon is still a good option to enjoy this dish. If one has a stronger palate, i do recommend you to ask for their chili to add to the broth which will give a different dimension to the dish.

Rating 8.5/10

The entire meal for 2 set me back $16 which was great value for 2 people. I enjoyed the meal tremendously and will definitely come back for more.
