Food review: Tampopo Deli @ Liang Court - affordable japanese dishes hidden in a corner

Tampopo Deli is part of the Tampopo group of restaurants that is famous for its Kurobuta (black pig). Its Deli outlet is a no frills restaurant and very casual. The restaurant is suitable for a simple dinner date and also great for friends' gathering.

We arrived at the restaurant during dinner time on a Saturday evening and managed to get seats easily. The outlet serves various noodles dishes and patrons can also select the fried side dishes or purchase the ready made bentos and cooked food.

I was recommended by my Japanese colleague of Bukakke Udon which is a cold Udon dish and decided to order it for Missus to try. I was being vain again and got the Sakura Chicken Udon which had the collagen broth. We got the cheese croquette to share.

Cheese Croquette 6.5/10
My Sakura chicken is served in a claypot which keeps the soup hot. Taste wise, it is far from the standards of Bijin Nabe and also lose out to the Rich chicken Udon from Tamoya. The udon was not as bouncy as well. Some tiny chicken slices were found in the soup but it did not have the rich taste that i was expecting. Missus's Bukkake udon was very refreshing and presented beautifully with many different colours and reminds me of Bibimbap. Cucumber, seaweed, sweeten tau pok and japanese fish cake together with the cold soup makes it a great dish to have in our hot weather.
The cheese croquette was decent with melted cheese which enhanced the flavor of the croquette.

Service was quick and we were served within 10mins after ordering. I will recommend this restaurant for the Bukkake udon if you fancy chilled noodles which may not suit the taste buds of many Singaporeans who are more used to having their noodles in a hot bowl of soup.
