Hotel Review: Studio M premier lofts - unconventional hotel spaces

Studio M is one of the many hotels that belongs to Millennium hotels group. The living spaces is not one that is expected in a conventional hotel room setting. All the rooms have a tall ceiling and a loft built in to the rooms which is usually only found in suite room categories in other establishments.

We arrived at the hotel and on a Saturday afternoon with a short queue which was cleared within 10mins.That was okay but we were told that due to the high occupancy rates the previous day, the house keeping did not have sufficient time to prepare our rooms and we had to wait. We arrived at about 3.30pm and had to wait until 4.30pm which was disappointing was the official check in time is 2.00pm.

To tide us over the waiting time, the hotel allowed us to enjoy complimentary drinks at their Memo cafe which missus and I sat down to sip some coffee and had fun taking some stills. A charging station is available if phones needs to be juiced up. It seems there were several groups already in the cafe before us and many of them booking the hotel rooms to have birthday parties looking at the props and balloons that the guests were bringing. It made us slightly concerned about noisy neighbors but thankfully our fears were unfounded. The sound proofing was excellent and we had a great night sleep.

The rooms were beautifully designed by Italian designer, Piero Lissoni. This is pretty much rare in hotels unless you paid a premium for suite rooms. We were impressed by the high ceilings and smart use of the spaces. It has the feel of a boutique hotel coupled with 4 star convenience which was a great combination. Depending on the room booked, your bedding configuration differs and only the studio loft has the bed on the ground level.

A good range of amenities is provided which is expected for a 4 star establishments. A small lounge area that can serve as a day bed seats at the ground floor. The only television is provided on the 2nd floor and it will have been nice to watch television using the seating area.

Interestingly, only one bath robes is provided. The working desk is sufficiently large and can accommodate 2 person working side by side.

We booked the studio loft but we were upgraded to the premier loft and we had a little exercise to do before we can get to our beds.

The shower facilities and washroom is in seperate cubicles and guests may feel a little claustrophobic in the tiny spaces.

Air conditioning can be controlled individually and not centralized. The only issue that i found is that the switches controlled all the lights. It does not seem possible to only turn on the toilet lights for example and it is highly likely that your partner will be woken up if one has to use the washroom at night.

Our view of the Singapore room has blocked by the adjacent building. There are many bars and restaurants serving different cuisines so guests will be spoilt for choice. Liang Court is just 10 mins walk away with a Japanese supermarket if you need to purchase some snacks or drinks. Great World City is also not too far away and there is a cinema to catch some movies. If clubbing is your thing, Clark Quay is a stones throw away with the numerous nightspots and drinking holes.

Outdoor Jacuzzi and Pool is available and on busy weekends, many people can be seen soaking in the waters to cool off from the warm weather. Several seating areas are available near the pool so guests can enjoy some me time with a book. If guests are interested to work up a sweat, a small but sufficient gym is available.

Buffet breakfast is as expected of an international 4 star establishments with items catered to the western palate. A few local dishes complete the mix which are mostly quite decent. Wifi speed is decent and no issues for streaming youtube videos. Shuttle buses are available to train stations and selected shopping malls which can be arranged with the concierge.

I will recommend this hotel for a relaxing staycation, small birthday parties and it will also be a great place for travelers to explore Singapore. Being near the Singapore River, travelers can also make use of the river cruise to enjoy scenic views and get to Marina Bay Sands.
