Food review: Tamoya udon @ Liang Court Clark Quay - Sanuki Udon thats slurplicious

Tamoya Udon is the first overseas branch by the udon champion, Tamotsu Kurokawa. With such great tasting noodles, it is of little wonder why it has been so popular in Singapore. Apart from the beautiful and bouncy noodles, the restaurant also has tempura done masterfully and does not ooze oil when you chew on them.

Tamoya still remains popular among the locals and they have recently came out with a new menu serving Sukiyaki with their famous Sanuki Udon.

For a very decent price of $13.80net, you get a piping whole pot of Sukiyaki. There are a few versions with different types of meat to choose from and I had the beef Sukiyaki. Among from the thin slices of beef, you can find several pieces of tofu, thick glass noodles, mushroom among the ingredients.

A small egg is also served as part of the condiment and this is eaten raw as a dipping sauce for the beef slices.

Beat up the egg, dip using the beef slices and enjoy the yummy taste!

The sweet and savoury broth goes very well with the bouncy udon that comes with every bite. The awesome price is hard to beat and I hope this will become a main stay for their menu! Entertainer fans can also rejoice as you can now enjoy 1 for 1 udon with your entertainer app!

1st Visit Jan 2016]

We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday evening to a packed restaurant. We got lucky enough and did not have to wait for a seat with a table just done with their meals. The restaurant is self served and food is almost served immediately upon ordering which is almost fast food like. If your choice of noodles for that day will be the Kama-age Udon then about 15min waiting time can be expected for the chef to whip up your meals.

One of the reasons why I am in love with the restaurant is because of the large variety of condiments we can add to the noodles. The highlights will definitely be the seaweed which you can grab as much as you want. Tempura batter is also available to be added to the soup for those whom enjoys the crispy taste. Ginger paste, lime and also plums can be added to the soup to enhance their taste. Scissors are conveniently provided for patrons to cut up the tempura into bite sizes.

There is a new menu which is the Rich chicken udon which excites me. Being the curious cat that I am, its a must try. The broth tasted suspiciously like the collagen steamboat, Bijin Nabe which is one of my favorite broths in Singapore. 3 meatballs were included with the noodles. The meatballs is very different from the meatballs we are used too that has a chewy texture but these are very soft and seem to be hand made using minced chicken meat. Some Yuzu slices are added to the broth and gave the soup a refreshing tangy aftertaste. The noodles were smooth and bouncy. For guys, I will recommend ordering the large bowl as the added calories is definitely worth it.

Rich Chicken Udon 7.5/10

As usual, being the persistent fan  of cold noodles, missus ordered the Zaru and she happily dipped every strand of the delicious noodles into the brown sauce. We shamelessly helped ourselves with the delicious seaweed which goes very well with the noodles.

Zaru Udon 7/10

We cant be just having noodles with the delicious tempura shouting out to us, eat me, I am fried, I am delicious! We gladly obliged and selected my favorite Chikwwa which I highly recommend for its texture. It was the first time for us to try the tamogo tempura and the sweet tasting egg tempura taste wonderful. The croquette also goes very well with the tonkatsu sauce.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go for a casual date and being a authentic Japanese restaurant, the price is reasonable and I will highly recommend this place. They currently have a membership program and you can enter your phone number to register to exchange for food and drinks.
