Food Review: Astons Specialities @ Kallang wave - great tasting western fare at pocket friendly prices

Aston needs no introduction to the locals in Singapore with it well established brand name, serving great tasting western food at pocket friendly prices.

Missus and I decided to head to the outlet at Kallang Wave on a Saturday for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised that they were no snaking queues at this outlet. The restaurant is usually packed so do arrive early during meal times or some waiting in line will be necessary.

As the restaurant was relatively empty, we were able to choose the window seat which gives us a good view of the CBD landscape albeit partially blocked by the greenery.

The restaurant is not reputed for its views so lets move on to the highlights. Missus as usually is not such a big meat eater but she is a seafood lover. She ordered the Black pepper fish which is a decent slice of Dory fish. I had the Prime Ribeye in medium doness. No we are not done here, every main comes with 2 sides each and you can choose from the cold side dished or cooked ones which are all tasty. Recommended sides include the mac & cheese which is my all time favourite, potato wedges, coleslaw and fries.

Prime Ribeye with Mac&Cheese + Potato wedges
7/10

Black pepper fish with coleslaw + garden veggies
7/10

The ribeye was a decent cut and done perfectly to suit my tastebuds. It was also enough to fill my tummy while the fish for  missus was soft and tender. Both dishes left us satisfied. For those with insatiable tummy, i recommend you to try the double up chicken which is essentially 2 big slices of chicken. Patrons can decide 2 ways to cook each slice and that will definitely leave those even with a large appetite, bloated. You will never be able to find such quality which is of great value in another restaurant in our sunny island.

Service if friendly and efficient and the restaurant is family friendly. The pocket friendly prices also means it is a good place for a friend's dinner gathering or even a place for casual dates. This is also one of the restaurants that serves my favourite brand of root beer, IBC! For the ladies, after having lunch and dinner, you can burn of some calories by shopping at the ever popular Forever 21, H&M and Uniqlo. They are not packed with people like the Orchard branches and so much nicer to shop at.
