Kurotomon is a quality ramen bar churning out bowls of delicious noodles. Apart from being good at noodles, they also have a BBQ menu providing patrons with delicious sides of grilled meats to match with the hot piping noodles.
The restaurant is strategically located beside the escalator. There is a window showcasing one of the chefs grilling the mouth watering meats which is sure to entice patrons who takes a peek at his work.
The restaurant is not exactly huge and have limited seats. A short queue can be expected during dinner time so be prepared to wait. Once seated, you will be lead to your table and you will be presented with your utensils in an organised Japanese style. The atmosphere is casual and have an open air concept. One cant help but notice the wooden elements used that seems to be modeled after traditional Japanese houses.
We wanted to get boost juices which cost a half the price in Singapore and ended with a jug of ice water for our meal. This is chargeable at RM2/SGD$0.65 which is not the most unreasonable.
My miso ramen soon arrive after a short wait. Some hard work and dedication seems to have gone into the delicious broth. There is a rich flavour and a nice creamy texture to the wholesome broth which is understood to be kept simmering for long hours. Generous pieces of tender Chashu and the standard onsen egg complimented the springy noodles well.
Miso Special Ramen RM34/SGD$11.30
Karubi RM38/ SGD $12.25
The missus chose the aka maru motoaji which is a bowl of spicy goodness. The full bodies soup pack a punch but was a tad overpowering with the strong taste of chili oil.
Aka Maru MotoAji RM29/SGD $9.35
Besides noodles, who could resist the grilled dishes and we ordered the premium Karubi which is grill with only salt and pepper. It retained its natural beefy flavours and was done to medium rare. The meat was decent but was though to be lacking in its premium label.
Karubi RM38/ SGD $12.25
Fish was always on the cards and we had the Yaki Saba. The fish was grilled to perfection and did not required any additional seasoning. The meat was firm and moist with a crispy skin to boot.
Yaki Saba RM 16 / SGD $5.15
We left with satisfied tummies filled to the brim and can safely concluded this is one of the best places in Johor for your ramen fix.
