Azuma is a decent Japanese restaurant with a sushi conveyor belt much like our Sakae Sushi in Singapore. We check out how it fares with many off its other competitors that are just around the corner.
We arrived to a decent crowd on Saturday evening and had to wait in line for our table. There were empty tables but the restaurant seem to be slightly understaffed for the tables to be properly set. The bright facade makes people wonder to the place to check out whats on offer.
After a short wait, we were led to our table. Without being asked, we were seated away from the conveyor belt so if we wanted sushi, we will have to order from the menu. Not that it matter very much to us as we were not in the mood to stuff our faces with vinegared rice. The service of the restaurant was rather inadequate as we struggle to get the attention of our server.
It was also horrible to find black ants crawling around the table. As it was already 8pm, we did not want to make a big fuss and proceeded with our orders.
We start our meal with some green tea. This is supposedly refillable if the service is adequate
Starters of the evening include the japanese egg omelette Tamogo with flying fish roe drizzle with some mayonnaise. It was pretty average and did little to excite my taste buds.
Tamago No Nishu Mayo Aburi RM11/SGD$3.50
We continued with the Azuma pizza which came with a crust akin to Japanese rice cracker. There were generous amount of Unagi, Salmon, Tobiko(flying fish roe). We love how every bite came with a satisfying crunch and the soy based sauced of the "Pizza" complements the pieces of Salmon and Unagi chunks. This will be a great accompanying snack with beer.
Azuma Pizza RM37.50/SGD$12.10
The missus decided to have a pot of Yose Nabe. This is a huge pot of seafood soup with generous amount of prawns, squid, scallops, tofu, mushroom and various vegetables. There were also tung hoon(glass noodles) to be found in the soup which is much thicker than the ones we are used to in Singapore. We were expecting a savory soup but we experienced an artificially sweet soup.
Next one is my mains which is the Yaki Soba. The dish is expertly stir fried and was flavourful. It is topped with bonito flakes which was moving wildly around. A fun to watch and good tasting dish.
Yaki Soba RM21.50/SGD$6.95

On the whole, the meal was decently priced but the quality of food and service was far from Japanese standards. If all the other restaurants are full to the brim then I will considering paying a return visit.
