Hotel review: (SPG) Le Meridien Onsen Suite @ Sentosa Island - Experience Zen at this beautiful hotel

A little Oasis in itself is the Le Meridien Hotel in Sunny Sentosa Island. The hotel used to be known as Movenpick Heritage but have been taken over by Le Merdien. It is a SPG category 5 for those whom are members of the SPG group. Convienently located just 2-3 minutes away from Imbiah station in Sentosa, this is the perfect hotel to explore the best of what the island have to offer.

With is rich colonial past restored to full glory by renowned architecture firm DP Architects, you are able to experience the rich heritage and well appointed surroundings. The hotel is equipped with lavish suites modeled by Japanese Design company, Super Potato.

Coming to the hotel is not exactly the easiest as it requires a few change of transportation if you are using the public transport system. You will have to take the MRT to habourfront station and transfer to the Sentosa Monorail Express to Imbiah station. The hotel will then be stone's throw away.

I suggest coming via taxi or uber but be prepared to show the Sentosa service crew your booking confirmation to avoid paying entrance fees.

Despite the hassle, the hotel is definitely worth your while with its beautiful surroundings and awesome rooms. It was in August during our visit as the National flag is flown during the National day month.

Checking in was a simple fare with the staff professional. We were also provided with Sentosa monorail pass which we can use to re-enter the island from Habourfront station. The lobby area is well decorated and feels posh with all the lighting during the evening.

As we were celebrating a special occasion, we booked the Onsen suite that comes with a private Jacuzzi in a Japanese style bathtub, large enough to fit 2 person. The 63sqm suite is luxurious and is beautifully designed..

A well proportioned room lays in sight as you enter through the door. The room is well lit by natural light streaming through from the private terrace.

A couple of wall plugs albeit in a strange location along with the luggage stand is also among the first things you will noticed as you enter the room.

At the center of attention in the room will be the comfortable bed awaiting your evening slumber. First impression is the most important and with the aesthetically pleasing cushions and presence of clean white sheets  make me want to dive right in for a nap. The bed does not only score high on the looks department but is also very functional with its velvety sheets and plush pillows that ensured you will have a restful night.

Beside the bed, you will find a handy wall socket along with a control panel for lighting which also serves as an alarm clock. The curtains can also be controlled automatically by the panels which provide the luxury of not having to manually pull them.

At the bar counter, you will notice complimentary water and Nespresso's mid range espresso maker's Essenza.

Opening the drawers below the bar, reveal mugs and some wine glass. The best part of this drawer will be the premium TWG tea bags at the top right corner.

Opening the fridge reveal some soft drinks and beer which cost a premium for their convenience.

For entertainment, you have a 32inch LCD TV churning out cable channels which I feel the room can do with a much larger television considering the premium paid to live in it for one night.

There were plenty of connectivity options beside the television but a lack of a work desk. Then again, why will you want to be doing any work in a perfectly relaxed environment like this?

We head out to the patio with some difficulty as the sliding doors will not budge and we had to apply a great force for it to open. This will be a good time to show the ladies your manly prowess but the hotel should really try to loosen those up.

The first thing you will see is a small dining area which has a Japanese tea set nicely laid out. The decor compliments the Onsen theme and it will be quite nice to have some tea at the table if not for the sweltering heat. There is a ceiling fan but the fan speed does not provide enough ventilation to keep you cool.

Some lamp cases are set beside the dining area to enhance the surroundings. It would be cool if they were functional during the night time with the staff bring over kerosene lamps but I checked and there was no such option.

You will also find Japanese style slippers near the glass door area as you stepped out from the room. These are useful at the terrace area as the cotton slippers can be slippery. It was a nice touch for the hotel to include male and female sizes but we were skeptical about the cleanliness as they do not appear to be new.

As you descend the steps to your own mini sanctuary, a useful daybed provides you the comforts of laying down and soaking up the warmth from the Sun.

The feature wall serves as a good back drop, going with the earthly themes with the muted colours choosen by the interior designer.

The private terrace is large and functional with lots of free roaming space. It will be great for a small party.

The center of attraction will definitely be the Onsen style bathtub which is comfortable enough to have 2 people enjoying the jets of water massaging your back. We had a awesome time just lounging in the warm bath and watch the time go by.

On the downside, the bathtub area is poorly lit at night and we had to get the hotel staff to bring us some tea light candles in order for us to orientate ourselves to the tub.

What better way after a soak with some nice Champagne after.

To complete the Onsen theme, you can find Yukatas at the wardrobe to complete the whole package. There is also a spare pillow in case there is a need.

The usual standard fare of a safe, cotton slippers can also be found at the drawers below the wardrobe.

At the price point in similar rooms, we often get 2 wash basins but we only found one in our room.

A good range of amenities were provided and house in bamboo baskets which is a nice touch.

The room also comes with a separate shower area equipped with rain showers.

A luffa is provided to aid in your quest to scrap off dead skin. We were disappointed not to be provided shower amenities from Malin + Goetz which is the norm for Le Meridian properties. Instead we were provided with black bottles of "Nature" branded which is far from the high quality bath essentials of Malin+ Goetz.

The shower area is also your own private steam room which is quite cool in my opinion. I am not a fan of steaming myself and did not test it out.

Adjoining the shower stall, you can find a similar toilet that we also found in Rendezvous hotel's Club rooms, fully equipped with seat warmers and water jets which provided the extra luxury.

Guess you have seen enough of the rooms so let us explore the resort like grounds of the beautiful hotel.

The walkway to the restaurant is artfully decorated. Lined with beautiful lights, the effect of taller ceilings and wider spaces is created.

You can have a seat at the many comfy chairs along the walkway.

We are in love with the perforated walls which excludes elegance and style.

There are tiny tea light candles at the small tables to help you have a clearer look at the menu in case you will like to have some tea.

The exterior of the hotel is also unique with chess pieces for decorations.

From the door step, you can admire the full view of the Merlion. From here on, it is about 2 minutes walk to Imbiah monorail station.

In the evening, mood lightings enhanced the facade and you can also see the Merlion in different light.

Another awesome feature that you will be interested in will be the beautiful infinity pool.

The pool is surrounded by the beautiful colonial architecture with lush greenery all around. You just want to spend the whole day swimming at the beautiful pool.

Wont it be nice to just lounge at the deck chairs all day long to soak up the sun like what the missus is doing.

Apart from the pool, you can also use the gym to work out a sweat.

Breakfast in the morning was slightly disappointing at the Latest Recipe. The restaurant is not the biggest and if you are not an early bird, be prepared to join the queue. There is a decent variety of food but the restaurant is rather rowdy and does not have the intimate setting I am expecting. I believe with the opening of the crystal lounge, this problem should be alleviated in the near future for guests living in the suite rooms

Overall, this is a fantastic property for a staycation but it does have its issuess. One of the room lights could not be switched off and we had to get maintenance to come down at midnight which they finally solve the problem 30 minutes later by turning the mains off. For guests needing the wifi, you will be disappointed by the slow speeds. Apart from all that, we enjoyed our stay tremendously and hope the same issues will not be there for our return trip.
