Food review: Baker & Cook @ Intercontinental Hotel (Bugis Junction)

Baker & Cook is located in a quiet and inconspicuous corner facing Bugis cube. They serve decent coffee and a good variety of food that will delight many. Choose between enjoying indoors or taking your savories to go is available. Think of this place like a hipster Starbucks that serves you better food and coffee.

Baker & Cook position themselves as an artisan bakery and foodstore chain. The mastermind behind this bakery chain is Dean Brettschneider, a famous baker hailing from New Zealand. The design of the place is simple but cosy. You will be pleasantly surprised by the wide range of baked goodies to fill up your tummies.

If the items on the counter do not whet your appetite, there are more savories to be found on the menu. Drinks menu is also pretty extensive with teas, coffee and juices to quench your thirst.

The bakery has a limited seating capacity and fills up quickly. The ambience is casual and prefect for friends to share the latest gossip.

Plain water dispenser is available at your own service.

There are other pre packed cookies for sale but they are placed in a strange corner right beside a table which left me wondering who will actually feel comfortable enough to browse what is available if the table is occupied.

It was the time for an afternoon snack and the missus and I shared Mille Feulle over 2 lattes. The Mille Feulle is crisp and just the right sweetness without being overbearing.

There is a hi tea promotion with a coffee or tea from 2-6pm at $9 which is a quite a good deal. Otherwise a large cup of latte will cost $6 by itself which is slightly pricey. The latte in itself is quite smooth and delicious and my only gripe is the lack of a latte art or what maybe a weak attempt of it. Then again, this is a bakery and not a cafe so I might be expecting a little too much.

We love the wide range of food to satisfy the sweet tooth. The coffee is decent and if there is a table available this place makes quite a good place to relax and have a chat with a love one over afternoon tea which is the best way to spend a lazy afternoon in my opinion.
