Food review: Laffio @ Beach Road

Located in the quiet corner of Beach Road is Laffio which is a nice gastrobar that is artfully decorated and resembles what I will imagine to be the interior of a tree house. The food is decent and will be great for a night's out for a date or even a friend's gathering.

The facade has an inviting presence but it is located slightly away from the bustling Haji lane where the crowd usually hang out and you can easily walk past the place without noticing it around.

The use of earthly tones and wooden decorations makes me feel like I am dining in a tree house.

The atmosphere is causal and there is no physical door. The air conditioning does not seem to be be set to an optimal temperature and can be slightly warm.

There is a menu on the wall just in case.

There is a mic near the bar which we believe is for the ticketed open mic nights that happen periodically.

The restaurant is not that busy and there is only one service staff available. She has to handle payment, orders and serving. Service can take a while if there is a sudden influx of patrons.

I ordered a Erdinger to start and the missus went with the Berry Good which is supposedly a combination of various freshly squeezed berries and apple. The drink turned out to be more apple juice than anything else as you can see from the colour. There was a faint hint of berries and that was it. My beer turned out to be less cold than I was expecting and was rather disappointing.

The missus went with the seafood option as per usual and this time she had the pan fried seabass. The meat is tender and was quite nice. The onion rings was crispy and not oily.

I had their signature dry rub steak which was nicely plated and pre cut for diners convenience. A slight criticism will be the wooden board which tends to move around too much from side to side. The brown sauce also tends to overflow pass the board and can be slightly messy.

The steak on the other hand is cooked too perfection but as the missus commented less than what would have been a gentleman's cut.

To sum it up, it is not too bad a dining place if you are not too fussy about details. Some improvements have to be made to improve the dining experience before we will think of coming back
