Food review: (Entertainer) Group Therapy Cafe Katong V [UPDATED MAR 2018]

Located in Katong V, Group Therapy Cafe is a popular cafe among the east-siders in Singapore. During weekends, the cafe is perpetually crowded in the morning as the local residents and expats come to enjoy their daily cuppa.

The cafe is dimly lit and provided a cosy atmosphere and is perfectly suited for people with their eyes half open in the mornings like me.

The design of the cafe resembles that of a regular living room which i guess is the kind of mood the owners are create, to dine like you are at home?

They served a good range of main courses which you can find the link for it here. We like the ability to customise our own plates with the items we want. This is certainly helpful especially with picky eaters.

The cafe is not the largest and they do have limited seats so I will recommend coming early to avoid snaking queues.

We arrived around 930am to a almost full house but were lucky enough to still get a table. Once you are done with your selection, order can be made at the counter. Coffee is served shortly after, but given the busy nature of the cafe, a short but reasonable amount of waiting can be expected for the food.

The missus went with the mint mocha to start her day. The sweet taste of the chocolate, combined with the slightly minty aftertaste makes it a perfect perk me up in the morning.

The cafe shows that they are serious about their coffee and provided the correct glasses for the genre of coffee. My coconut latte was an interesting one and had a distinct notes of coconut which was surprising good to go with a latte.

The missus poached eggs with salmon had a blanket of hollandise sauce, smothering the jiggly eggs that were perfectly poached. A gentle slice of the knife reveal the beautiful sight of the lava trickling out to blend with the creamy hollandise. It was enjoyable for the sight and also the palate.

My big plate was served BIG with a mixture of everything. I was given the choice of the way I will like my eggs to be done and it was a no brainer for me to go with poached eggs. I went with the rich brioche bread which was toasted to perfection. For healthier options, the multi-grain can be selected. The giant bratwurst was definitely the talking point. To balance all the artery clogging awesomeness, the tasty greens helped to wash it all down.

With coffee and food so good, it is of little wonder why this cafe is always packed to the brim. It was also interesting for the cafe to incorporate Peranakan inspired chinaware to their plates which suits the cultural district that they are in. I would not even need to think twice about coming back again and it is highly recommended by us.

[UPDATED MAR 2018]

We head to Group Therapy cafe and nothing much has been changed. The coffee is still good  although we will like to see a shift towards specialty coffee and pour over styles.

The missus had the skinny eggs Ben which is an upgrade to the poached eggs w/ Salmon previously. The new menu had the addition of smashed avocados layered over fresh greens, smoked salmon and delicious poach eggs. The combination of the ingredients was send our palates into flavourtown.

I did not deviate from my previous selection and had the big breakfast which had a bit of a weight loss and a small price adjustment. The sausage shrink in size but everything else was pretty much as good from our previous visit.

The greatness of the Entertainer app saw us shrink our bill which my pocket is thanking me for.
