Located at an obscure location but still wildly popular, Non Entree Desserts captured the heart of Singaporeans with our love of sugary treats. We were so impressed that we visited this dessert cafe twice to bring you this review!
The closest MRT station from the cafe is Farrer Park and even so, you will need to take a 7min walk to get here. The cafe is intricately and beautifully designed and gives off the feeling that I was transported back in time, into a small boy in his favourite toy shop. I was excited about the place and very eager to try the desserts like a little kid yearning for his toy.
After being lead to our table, the friendly waitress will present us with a bottle of water and ordering can be made at the counter.
Being a cafe, they have a decent coffee and tea menu but most of the patrons were not here for that. Most were concentrating on their desserts which are freshly made. They also have an impressive selection of dainty ready made pastries which are very pretty.
Being a dessert place, you can also enjoy ice cream to tide you pass the scorching heat while you await your tasty treats.
Our first visit lead us to try the Chocolate babe which was plated like a work of art. Chocolate paper, whiskey infused chocolate cream and cherries sorbet filled the plate among other exciting ingredients. The chocolaty cream was my favourite part and I could taste the hint of whisky. The sourish cherry sorbet helped to balance out what is an otherwise sweet dish.
The 2nd item we had is the highly addictive Chocolate Avalanche. It was served in a mini fish bowl with a warm molten Valrhona chocolate cake on the top and orange infused vanilla ice cream in the bowl. Cutting it in the middle will send smooth chocolaty lava flowing down onto the ice cream and also send smiles upon out faces.
Up next is the cherry pop which is another work of art. Its is beautifully shaped like a cherry with gold streaks. To open it up, we had to give the chocolate crust a few knocks to loosen it up. Opening the cherry pop exposed its soft interiors with earl grey jelly, marinated cherry compute and spicy cherry sorbet. The spicy cherry sorbet is not something you will expect and you will suddenly get a jolt when the spice from the sorbet hits you. The dessert have an element of everything with the sournes from the cherry compote, sweet and bitterness from the chocolate and also spice from the sorbet. A very interesting combination!
We tried 3 out of 7 of their signature (4 if we included the new item Matcha avalanche) and were very impressed. The unique desserts makes a good topic of discussion among friends and the cafe can be seen with large groups of friends gathering and enjoying the tasty treats. The only issue I found was the location which is not the easiest to get too if you are not driving. Otherwise it is highly recommended.
