Food review: Maco Vintage @ JB ~ cool cafe with tasty mille crepe cakes [UPDATED JUN 2016]

Maco Vintage is a gem of a cafe located in the cafe district in Johor Bahru. Its green exteriors make it stand out among the surrounding buildings and they have ample parking spaces just in front of the cafe which makes it easy for drivers.

After a long afternoon shopping at JPO, we decided to go cafe hunting again for some perk me ups, We discovered Maco Vintage at the end of the cafe street in Jalan Trus area and its green exteriors made it easy to spot.

The cafe is still pretty much occupied on a friday afternoon given that its Good Friday holiday and throngs of Singaporeans were seen flocking to Johor Bahru. Some art pieces line the wall which added a nice touch to the otherwise bare walls.

The waitress are friendly and are happy to assist in ordering. The kitchen counter is located in the middle of the cafe and we can observe how our coffee are being prepared. If we are going to try the mille crepes, you are welcomed to head to the display fridge which is at located at a different end of the shop.

The cafe serves savouries but the highlights are really their desserts. The mille crepe has individual cream and layers of crepe which look so painstakingly difficult to make. The end result is very fluffy, soft and will definitely satisfy any sweet tooths. The missus and I were expressing our heaps of joy from devouring this lip smacking cake.

To go with our cake, the missus had the iced mint latte and myself went with the macadamia latte. The mint latte tasted like its name suggested, minty but retained the pleasant aromatics of the coffee. My macadamia latte tasted like latte with macadamia syrup added. It  was ok but push a little too close to being too sweet for my liking.

If you are in JB to cafe hop, this is a must visit place to try their mille crepes. Their coffee is not bad but nothing close to being exceptionable. For my next visit, I will definitely try their savories and other mille crepe flavours.

[UPDATED JUN 2016]

We decided to come back to try their savories and arrived on a Sunday morning to an almost empty cafe.

Service was prompt but food and drinks took forever to arrived which got us quite worried about missing our train but to Singapore.

The missus ordered the Cafe Brulee Vanilla which came with a nice crispy layer of caramelized sugar similar to what you will have on a Creme Brulee. It was an interesting fusion of a dessert and coffee which will definitely appeal to those with a sweeth tooth.

I had the Maco's Ice Drip which was served in a wine glass and upped its cool factor. Sugar and milk are provided in shot glass and the presentation of the drink it classy and elegant. Their ice drip was satisfying and smooth. However it might not appeal to all coffee drinkers with the slightly sourish taste.

My breakfast arrived almost 15-20mins after our drinks which is wayyyyyy too long for an empty cafe. My Maco Signature brunch was pretty average with supermarket quality kind of ingredients, microwaved, and assembled on a plate

The missus's vanilla waffle fare better with the presentation resembling 2 lovers holding a strawberry heart which was pretty cute. The serving size was leaning towards a kid's menu which was unfortunate.

With our visit for their breakfast menu, I could understand why the cafe was quiet during breakfast timing. Unless there is a vast improvement over their breakfast menu, it is best to consider the cafe's coffee and cakes only.
