Hotel Review: Elizabeth Hotel - living space on a hilltop

Located in a district of the upper echelons and with a prestigious street name to boot, the Elizabeth hotel exuberate a feeling of luxury and prestige. It is 5mins away to the main Orchard road shopping belt but the area still retains the quiet and serenity that one will deserve for a good night's rest.

Being at the top of a hill, the hotel is not so elderly friendly and it is not that easy to get a taxi unless you use the grab taxi booking station outside the hotel. Getting to the nearest shopping mall, Paragon in the hot seat can be quite a chore as well.

The lobby does not differ with most of the 5 star establishments and feels classy. The main restaurant has a decent menu and the ambiance feels upmarket.

The pool area is large and provides ample space for families and children to take a soak in the cool waters. The gym is divided into 2 separate areas, treadmill in the air conditional room while the free weights and other exercise machines located outdoors.

The superior room is 23sqm and is rather large for the land scarce Singapore. Furnishing in the room on the other hand is rather dated and in need of a face lift given the hotel's long history. The bed is quite comfortable but we found the temperature of the room to be a little warm. Television is around 42 inch and provides good entertainment. However, after several minutes of usage, the audio becomes distorted and makes it unbearable to watch.

There is a interesting concept to allow guests to enter into the executive pavilion to get some cold beverages or some hot coffee or tea. Some cup noodles are also available. Very helpful if you are feeling peckish in the middle of the night.

Amenities provided are of decent quality and the restroom appears to be reasonably clean. There is a bathtub which I did not use due to the irremovable stains. The bathtub also does not have non slip coating so you will have to be slightly careful after you are done showering.

The tap looks exactly the same and does not provide any indications of which is for the hot/cold water which is slightly inconvenient. Hair dryer is not too powerful and takes a long time to dry your hair.

Being at one of the higher floor and on top of a hill, we are able to have a good glimpse of the surroundings and notice a interesting maze made of shrubs near the hotel.

I like the bedside lamps which looks classy. The vintage looking controls makes it easy to turn on and off the lights but some of the other functions that controls the TV are not working.

Breakfast is served at the Modesto's restaurant which provides a good variety of eastern and western cuisines. The restaurant is large, organised and provides ample space of guests which is helpful and i did not see much of a queue for breakfast.

The wifi works reasonably well but is a little slow compared to some of the hotels we have stayed in.

In all, I feel the hotel is in need of some renovations in the rooms as the air conditioner and television did not work well. The location despite being near the main shopping district can be a hassle getting up and down the hill. Unless some work is being done to the rooms, I will think twice about coming back.
