Food Review: Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup - Famous Kidney Mee Sua near Kembangan MRT

Conveniently located 3min walk away from Kembangan MRT housed a very popular Zi Char place famous for its Kidney Mee sua. This crowd-pleaser can be found on almost every diner's table and is a must have!

If you are coming by MRT, drop at Kembangan and turn left to exit A. Cross the street and follow the foot path beside the canel and head straight. At the end of the canel before the traffic light, you will see Seng Kee on your right.

The restaurant is very popular and often you can see snaking lines ordering food and it is recommend to come early or risk having to wait for a table. Food order can be done at the area with signboards of its various offerings. The staff will then assist you to a empty table. If the main restaurant is full, you will be lead further down the street to a air conditioned area which is much better in my opinion. Food is served very quickly usually within 10mins and I understand the stall opens until late in the night which makes it a good supper place.

Kidney Mee Sua 7/10

The highlight of the place will definitely be the kidney mee sua. The broth has a very good depth and slightly peppery. I cannot attest how well the kidney or liver taste like as both are not the food I eat but the missus enjoyed them a lot. If you are like me, you can go for the version with just slices of pork and no innards.

 Lala Bee Hoon 7/10

I had the lala bee hoon which is both generous in the ingredients and also very flavuorful. The prawns were large and fresh. Belly pork is tender and the pork lard is crunchy and goes very well with the noodles. This had to be one of the best bee hoon dish I have had in Singapore.

Four heavenly Kings 7/10

To go with our mains, we had the four heavenly kings which is a vegetables dish with lady fingers, brinjal (eegplant), long beans and smelly beans as the four kings. The dish is stir fried with belachan chill and also fried anchovies to provide the crunchy texture. The liberal amount of onions also enhanced the taste and I will highly recommend.

Apart from the above dishes, they also have the JB fried bee hoon which is a pan friend bee hoon dish that is fired to a crisp and is served in a large flat pancake form. The other notable dish is the fish head curry which is my next to try.

29 mar 2016 Edit: We went to try the curry fish head and it was fiery hot. The snapper fish head used is fresh and there was sufficient chunks of fish meat. The tofu skin 腐皮 absorb the gravy and was not as crispy as I had hope but was still delicious. It was awesome to have spoonful of rice soaked in the spicy gravy. For those that are not good with spice, I recommend to get your ice cool drinks ready or request for it to be less spicy.
