Food review: Il Cielo @ The Hilton ~ Romantic Dinner date

Located the the top floor of the Hilton hotel and with Il Cielo meaning "the sky", one will feel that the restaurant will definitely offers fantastic views. However this was not the case with many of its surrounding buildings towering over the Hilton hotel. Il Cielo on the other hand offers an delectable Italian diner experience with interesting dishes.

We were privileged to be able to enjoy our Valentine's day dinner at this exquisite restaurant and having arrived early, we were the only couple in the restaurant and it felt like we book the whole place albeit only for a short while.

The decor is contemporary, posh and feels upscale. We had a table that was facing the pool and the ambience is lovely.

Missus was lucky enough to receive flowers twice with my bouquet and then another rose from the restaurant as per of the Valentine's day package. The rose from Il Cielo does not look too fresh and had a dark patch.

Our table was well decorated with rose petals and candle light which provided the lovey dovey vibe. Our dinner started with sparkling wine and the customary bread roll.

This was continued with the nicely decorated oysters and caviar which served as a good aphrodisiac. Oyster was very fresh and it was my first experience combining with strawberry and I must say fare too far from how pretty the dish looks.

The scampi had a mixture of lobster meats and some prawns which were fresh had a nice texture. The cherry tomato puree has a slight tangy aftertaste. The black parts on the dish dissolves into the puree upon contact which I did not find out what it was and did nothing to enhance the taste of the dish.

The porcini mushrooms had a nice nutty flavour which was nice but the ravoli was slightly undercooked resulting in a slightly more chewer texture than what I would have like.

Missus had the cod fish which was definitely the best dish of the evening. The fish had a very nice texture and it almost melts in your mouth. It is soft enough not chewing was not necessary. Foie gras was done in 2 ways with the traditional pan fried placed on top of the fish. The more interesting variant was done ice cream style, encrusted with chocolate (glass cup). The intense flavours flowed out of the "ice cream" from the first bite and boy was it awesome!

My beef tenderloin was done in medium donenss as requested with a beautiful truffle butter placed on top. The butter melted from the heat of the beef and gave the beef a nice buttery taste. It did not offer too much of truffle though. The paprika provided the spice for the dish and gave a good kick to the tastebuds.

7.5/10

Our dessert was served in a sharing plate with candied rose petals which provided the sugar rush. The nicely plated dish had a good amount of love elements which wrapped up the wonderful evening well.

The golden question that everyone wants to ask will be was the price worth it? For Valentine's Day and with the great service, I will say yes. The ambience was great and service excellent. One small issue was the loud noise that came from a group doing their merry making in the private room. Closing the door may help to contain all the unpleasant noise that mare our evening but I am not sure why the door had to be left open.

I had higher hopes for the food and had better offerings for a similar price. However, it was Valentine's Day and of course dining with a brand name like Hilton comes with a certain price tag. The crucial part is that missus left a happy woman which is the most important for me and also my days to come :)
