The Da Bang is one of the new entrants in the cafe scene and claims to be serving Australian fare with a korean twist. The cafe has a good ambiance and nicely decorated interior. Fruit infused jars lined the bar and are pleasant to look at.
We arrived on a Sun morning around 1130am into an empty restaurant and we thought since the restaurant is new, business may not be brisk yet and was still looking forward to a great brunch which they claim to be eggcellent.
Lots of promotions and interesting events going on. For alcohol lovers, you will be pleased to know there is an alcohol buffet for a very affordable price of $28 for ladies and $35 for gents. The liquid buffet last for 3h and is definitely good value considering the price of drinks in Singapore.
Ok, i digress. Let me go back to talk about their brunch which is what we were here for. I had the ice cube coffee(latte). Warmed milk is provided to add to cubes of coffee. It is interesting idea but rather gimmicky. Instead of tasting like cold latte, it ended up like watered down milk coffee. Overpriced and totally not worth it.
Our food arrived plated nicely and that is the only compliment I can give for the food. My order was for the big breakfast which came big and the food were dish look beautiful with the many colours from the different ingredients. The dish was big with rye bread, sauteed mushrooms, sausage and lots of greens. Nothing really special in taste and the really disappointing thing was that the rye bread had a fishy taste. It seems that oil that was used to fry fish was reused to grill the bread giving it a weird taste.
Missus order the Eggs Benedict which arrived like Eggs Minidict. The eggs were tiny and appeared to be quail eggs instead of our regular chicken eggs. The eggs were also fried instead of it being poached which is the ultimate failure of it all. The rest of the food tasted nothing out of the ordinary and was quite disappointing.
The Big Breakfast 4.5/10
Eggs Benedict 5/10
We bought e-tickets in Qoo10 for the above food and escaped without paying any service charge and GST. I will not recommend this cafe and can finally understand why it lack business after trying it first hand. I will suggest giving the restaurant a bit more time to gather its thoughts and serve better food to attract the crowds.
