Mahattan fish market is having the fish mate 2016 promotion and we cant pass up on good deals like this. We decided to head over to the Bedok point branch to indulge in the fishy goodness.
The fish mate 2016 promotion is really awesome and you can choose from a range of delicious fried seafood from $14.90 to $29.95. These are good for 2 people and perfect for a nice meal right after work. If you have a party of 4, there are sets at $39.95 and $79.95 which brings the total cost per pax at $10 or $20 only. A very good deal for a seafood feast!

[1st Visit]
The missus and I went to the rather quiet Bedok point branch and thankfully, there was no waiting and we managed to get a table easily on a weekday's evening.
We went for the $21,95 set which consists of 2 pieces of cherry snapper, fries, salad and either soft shell crab or squid. Ordering is really simple and you just need to show the friendly service crew the desired set found in this link
I had the soft shell crab version and the serving was decent with a generous amount of fries. The salad had a nice sauce that served as a good appetizer. The soft shell crab is decent size and was fried to a crisp. The snapper had a nice batter which was not oily, Cutting them into portions revealed nice non flaky fish meat.

The missus variant had a big portion of squid that was fried with a batter similar to what one will expect for chicken cutlets. It was not too chewy as well and provided the satisfying crunch with every bite.

Ice water is non chargeable which was nice. Service was prompt and it was easy get the attention of the service crew. It will be much better to have chill sauce placed at every tables on a squeeze bottle instead of requesting for some from the service crew. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the dining experience and will definitely be back to enjoy the rest of the deals. Do note that the deals are not valid at Changi Airport branch and they will expire on 30 Nov 2016.
[2nd Visit]
The wonderful seafood dinner made us return and this time we ordered another 2 for $21.95 set. This time with prawns and scallop respectively. We arrived on a Wednesday around 7.30pm to a packed restaurant but still managed to get a seat. Service was efficient but due to the large number of orders, it took around 30mins for our food to be served.
I had the scallop which came flamed grilled over the spicy "mayonnaise-like" sauce. The salad portion was smaller this time but this came with a bed of rice which will be perfect for those that enjoy this staple in every meal. The scallops were succulent and combined well with the slightly spicy sauce which we also enjoyed smearing them all over the rice.

The missus had the prawn version which came with 3 medium-large prawns. They were similarly flamed grilled right in front of our eyes so there was the slightly charred and smoking smell. The sauce was found to be overpowering the dish and also too heavy.

To compare the 2 deals, our take is the crab + squid versions works better for us. We are not big on carbs so fries and rice can be a bit too much for us to handle. Also, food service can have hit and misses as we found out during crowded periods, we had to wait around 30min which was a little too long.
