Food review: Alicafe @ Jalan Dhoby, Johor Bahru Cafe District - Cloudy Affogatos for the perfect perk me up

Housed in a 2 storey shop house is Alicafe with an ominous looking facade. Do not be fooled by its tough exteriors as you will be greeted by friendly staff whom are happy to assist you once you step in. We found out what a gem this place turn out to be.

Entering the cafe you will notice their first floor deck in plush leather seats with remodeled wood pallets as table. The seating area is dim in lighting and feels cosy. You can check out their menu which is on a continuous loop on the tv screen and head to the counter to get the service staff for recommendations.

Some pretty photographs lined the walls to brighten up the otherwise dim environment.

The 2nd floor was divided into 2 sections with one that allows ample natural lighting and decked in bumble bee colours.

The other section was more "hippish" with windows facing the street.

From this area, we can see the staff at the ground floor whipping up our concotion.

As the cafe was pretty empty, we were able to choose our own seating and we went with the bumble bee area which is the best spot for pictures. We each had the over the top cotton candy affogato which was a pretty sight to behold.

You are served with a espresso shot on the side with a cloud of cotton candy hovering above a bed of ice cream. As the weather is pretty humid, it is best to consume your affogato promptly or you will notice the cotton candy melting.

Please do not pour the espresso directly into the ice cream as if you are pouring water which is what we did in our first attempt.

The end result will be just boring a hole into the cotton candy which is not what you want.

To obtain the optimal result of having the cotton candy melt into your affogato, pour the espresso in a circular motion into the cotton candy and watch in amazement as the connton candy shrink in size and melt into the ice cream.

After the cotton candy melts away, it will reveal the bed of vanilla ice cream covered with a layer of rainbow chocolate rice and a sea of espresso. The dessert is not too bad with the bitterness of the coffee balancing out the sweetness from the cotton candy. We enjoy the process of melting it and it was perfect to cool off from the tropical climate.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the cotton candy dessert and will definitely be back to try out their other great offerings.
