Food review: Sopoong @ The Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur

Sopoong is one of the many eateries located at the basement of The Quill City Mall. The restaurant is owned by a korean gentlemen and serves authentic korean dishes.

The restaurant has a welcoming facade and the ambience is casual. It is popular among the korean community living in the area which we noticed a few korean ladies having lunch with their kids. It seems to attract the working crowd as a venue for lunch and the students from the nearby university can also be found enjoying some korean dishes.

We had simple green tea to start off.

The missus had Doenjiang Jjigae (soybean paste stew) which was a light and nutritious soup. It comes with 3 different side dishes and a serving of rice.

I had the Jajangmyeon which was served with udon noodles unlike the ones I had in Seoul. Taste wise, it was sorely lacking what I was looking for and tasted a bit bland. This too came along with 3 side dishes.

To accompany our mains, we ordered the pajeon which was quite tasty and combined well with the sauce.

The mandu (dumplings) were plump and delightful but I doubt were self made. It was enjoyable to place various vegetables and eat it in one go to enjoy the various textures.

The casual place is a good venue for a simple and casual lunch. If you are craving for tasty and quality korean food, this might not be the best place. Unless you are in the vicinity, I will not recommend taking the trouble to come specifically to try.
