Food review: Chock full of beans @ Changi Village - 3D latte art for your Instagram pleasure [UPDATED OCT 2016]

Located in Changi Village, Chock full of beans continued to rein in the crowds with its good food and wonderful coffee. Popular with the expats and local community, the cafe is very busy especially during weekends which is a sure sign of something great!

Getting to the cafe can be done via public transport which is highly recommended as it can be quite difficult to get parking spot if you are late and the road can be quite congested. The cafe has an alfresco seating area and if you are lucky, you may land a table indoors.

Our preference was for the alfresco seats which we find more spaced out between the tables and easier to make conversation.

A self served ice water machine sits snugly outdoors and can be used to quench your thirst.

Cute chalk drawings line the entrance into the indoor areas.

Apart from the popular brunch items, the cafe also has a nice selection of cakes to satisfy those sweet tooth.

Behind the counter, the highly skilled Barista can be seen working on the beautiful latte art. Their latte art is by far one of the most unique with cute cartoon designs among many others. You can be sure to not get the usual heart, swan or flower shaped latte art from here and is one of the reason why the cafe is so popular.

For our drinks, the missus went with the Vanilla latte which have a nice vanilla smell but a little too sweet for my liking. For those that enjoy coffee with sugar, this will be a good choice

I prefer to have the aromatics from the coffee beans and went with the latte. Do note that their 3D latte art is only available for iced drinks and do indicate to the service crew that you will like the option. The cute latte art just makes the morning even better and definitely brighten up one's mood.

Don't the foamy creatures look adorable?

The salmon queen aka the missus went with the eggs Atlantic which come with 2 nicely poached eggs coated with hollandise sauce. The yolk did not disappoint and ooze out readily with a gentle slice of the knife. The smoked salmon did not have any strong fishy smell and combine well with the egg lava. It was enjoyable to butter the toast with the free flowing yolk and send waves of oohhh lala into your taste buds. The salad on the side help to cut through the thickness and provided the necessary fibre.

Being the piggy of the pair, I went with the roasted pork roulade. The dish came with decent slices of roulade which was perfect for a pig out. The dish was complimented with scrambled eggs and slices of toast which was a recipe for a perfect breakfast. The roulade was tasty but can be slightly dry. That is when the Dijon cream sauce comes it and it was enjoyable to drizzle the lovely sauce and munch away.

To sum it up, our brunch outing at the Chock full of beans is a success. The service is good and the food reasonably priced. The coffee is good and the latte art is amazing!!! Highly recommend by us!

[REVISTED SEP 2016]

We revisited the cafe on a Saturday afternoon 4pm and found the cafe packed like sardines. Due to the pokemon craze, there is a huge influx of visitors to Changi Village and cafes benefited from the increase in human traffic.

We were lucky that people were leaving and landed ourselves a table just beside the bar counter in the air conditioned part of the cafe.

The missus and I are always fascinated about the apparatus for making cold brew coffee which resembles a science experiment.

We also had a good view of the decorations on the walls with a very class monochrome picture of the Changi Village jetty with the bum boats docking in the area.

We wanted 3D latte art and the waitress kindly reminded us that waiting time will be 30min which was acceptable for us. We were happy that it was much lesser than that, I was delighted that my latte came with a white Pikachu or it could be some other cartoon character that looks like it. My latte seem under extracted and was slightly acidic. I will prefer a more bitter taste though but did enjoy the smooth and refreshing cup.

The missus Baileys latte as the name suggest and a strong hint of Baileys and fans of the liqueur will definitely appreciate the cup of latte. It had a sweet taste but did not overpower the taste of the coffee beans which was quite nice.

As always, 3D latte art never fails to impress us and always work wonders to brighten up one's day. With the hoards of pokemon fans in the vicinity, you can expect the cafe to be crowded throughout the day.
