The Replacement is one of the most instagrammed cafe in the Johor Bahru cafe scene. It is of little wonder why with the beautiful white washed walls that served a good backdrop for those delicious coffee and foods.
We arrived on a Good Friday afternoon to try some of its offerings but left disappointed as they are unable to make milk based drinks. We did not give up and returned on the next day for brunch. This time the egg benedicts were egg but that was still acceptable.
The cafe is very serious about its coffee and it is the only cafe that I see serving piccolo latte in the area. The missus as usual had mocha as she does like the bit of sweetness in her perk me ups. My piccolo latte was smooth and delicious. The downside of a popular cafe is that the food and drinks took some time to arrive.

The missus likes all things green and also seafood which makes the Green Power 2.0 ideal for her. This is pretty much like a nutty salad salad topped with a poached egg. The eggs were perfectly poach with a soft interior and goes well with the nuts and greens. The smoked salmon and avocado was a great addition with the different taste and texture to add another dimension to the dish. Very tasty, healthy and pretty dish!

Being the glutton, I enjoyed having a huge selection on my plate and I went with the their signature breakfast platter compromising of mushrooms, ham, scrambled eggs sausages and baked beans. The baked beans was an interesting one as in Singapore we are used to just having them straight from the can. Having the baked beans being mixed with some tomato pasta sauce make me feel in love with baked beans again and instead of being left on the plate, I was wishing for more.

To top of our brunch, we had the dark churros with salted egg yolk dip. Salted egg yolk is currently the latest fad with every eatery having a go to concoct a dish of Salted egg yolk so I had some expectations for this dish. I was disappointed that the dish looks very much better than how it tasted. The churros were crispy but lacked taste and the salted egg yolk dip did not fare too much better.
Dark Churros with salted egg yolk dip 5/10
The cafe is not just another pretty vase with its great coffee and delectable brunch offerings. The choice of another flavoured dip may return different results which I am keen to give it another go. The long waiting times for a table and food may be a dampener but the cafe still offers enough for me to think of a return visit.

The replacement is one of our favourite cafes in JB and of course we had to pay a return visit. The minimalist decor is still enchanting the hearts of visitors with the perfect white washed walls that are great for photos.
They started having specialty coffee which we lap up the chance to try.
The coffee is available cold brew or filter style if you prefer hot coffee. As it was a warm day, the choice was simple to go with the cold brews.
We tried the Colombia Santuario and Guatemaia K72, both of which were not too shabby and had nice floral notes.
Food wise, the missus went with the Eggs Benny(Salmon) which was laid out beautifully with swirls of hollandise generously spread all over the plate. The smoked salmon were fresh and had no fishy smell. A slight disappointment was that the eggs were slightly overcooked and did not ooze out yolk when sliced.
My dish came with a huge deep fried soft shell crab sitting snugly like a King in a pan fried Chinese Bun. The crunch you get from every bite of the crab is just so satisfying and you get a side of wedges to go with the Chinese style burger. The heat from the sauce is just nice and the wasabi mayo is great as a dip for the wedges. I thought it might be great if there is the Singapore Chili sauce to go with this dish.
Another great outing to this beautiful cafe completed and will definitely be back for more!
