Hotel review: Big hotel (rebranded as Hotel G) - Scandinavian style boutique hotel

Big hotel is a 4-star establishment and stands on an Middle Road, situated in a central area, minutes away from various shopping locations and is a great base to start one's adventure in Singapore. The Scandinavian styled  rooms and free in room movies also makes it a great choice for couples looking for a romantic getaway from the mundane working life.

We arrived at the hotel at around 3pm which is one of the busiest period for check in but thankfully there is only a short queue and we managed to check ourselves in within 5 minutes.

The hotel lobby is intricately designed to resembles a large living round with couches and large TV, giving patrons a warm feeling as if you are at home or at the friend's place.

We booked the superior room which is only 13sqm but is a comfortable and cosy space. A narrow walkway welcomed us into the room which may prove claustrophobic for some if one is carrying large luggage. The bed is on elevated ground with a space to stow one's luggage with the safe deposit box just right beside the empty space. The queen size Bed is very comfortable with high thread count linen giving missus and I a wonderful night's sleep.

The working area is only comfortable for one and shelves are utilized to place drinking mugs, tumbler and also an ice bucket is provided. These can be used to get water for making tea and also ice from the machines located just outside the lift.

The restroom is simple but very clean. Restroom furnishings are from Hansa and are well equipped  to satisfy one basic needs. Have you stood in the rain before? If not the rain shower is available for your relaxation to enjoy the warm water falling gracefully onto your body.

The provided body wash and shampoo are perfumed with Ylang Ylang and smells great. They also do not sting your eyes.

Self help laundry service is available at the 4th floor.

For those that wish to stay in, the TV is well equipped with cable channels and one can also enjoy the free in room movies. Though not the latest movies, one is still able to find titles that were released at the beginning of the year. A tablet is also provided if one needs the internet and it is also able to control the lighting of the room.

There is only one electrical outlet but one can still use the USB ports provided to charge your phone. Air condition can be controlled manually and it works well with no audible noises.

Views outside our room was a concrete jungle but one can still spot MBS in the distance.

Wifi speed is reasonable but can be better. We tested the housekeeping services at 9am to request for additional body wash and shampoo. We were provided 2 sets even though we only requested for one and they took around 4mins to respond to our request.

The breakfast is semi buffet style. Looking at the poor turnout and having being duped once, i will not recommend their breakfast.

If partying is your thing, you will be happy to know that there is a collaoboration with Attica, one of the leading dance clubs at Clark Quay, granting  guests with free entry and priority queuing before 1130pm on Wed, Fri and Sat.

If one do not mind the cosy space, the hotel is afford ably priced and makes a great stay for the weary traveler. It is also a great option for couples planning a staycation. Do note that deluxe and executive rooms are not that much better but only comes with slightly better amenities.
