Food review: Sindang Reret Restaurant Bandung - Serene and pocket friendly Restaurant near Kawah Putih

Located on the road to Kawah Putih, this is a great rest stop for lunch with the lovely countryside air and serene atmosphere. It was a joy to dine overseeing the pond that is well stocked with free spirited fishes swimming about.

The idyllic surroundings provides the perfect backdrop for a restful lunch. The picturesque landscape relaxed our senses and help us to put the tiring journey ahead to the back of our minds.

Not all is perfect in such a nice setting. English menu is not available but I could use my limited knowledge in Behasa. Being Singaporean, I could understand Ayam (chicken), Ikan (fish), Nasi (rice) and it was sufficient to at least know what I am ordering. Which ever way it is prepared is still bit challenging for me to understand but I am game for surprises. It is usually not too big a worry with the food in Indonesia fairly suitable for my tastebuds. If you have trouble or is more picky, I suggest checking the menu here (Thanks Zomato) to prepare what you will like to order in advance. Otherwise, google search might work but I am skeptical about their translations for food names.

It was quite nice to see the fish swimming around us and being naughty, we "carelessly" drop our food into the pond which attract trongs of fishes to feed around us.

The rich mango juice help to quench our thirst while we await the arrival of our food. Freshly juiced, just the way it should be.

My limited Bahasa allowed me to land an Ayam Goreng or fried chicken. I was expecting more of a KFC fried chicken but this turn our to be more pan fried kampong(free ranging) chicken. Taste wise, the outer skin was quite nice but the thinner (compared to Singapore standards) chicken ensure that there was not very much to savour.

Eggs are the missus favourite so it is always on the cards for our dining menu. It was not cheesy nor full of crunchy bacon bits like the ones usually found in hotels. The omelette was quite regular with mixed vegetables thrown in and felt home cooked.

Next up is the stir fried kangkong. I was more used to the sambal variant in Singapore so this is quite interesting with tomatoes and quail eggs included.

The Ikan Gurame done sweet and sour style was the highlight of the meal. The sauce was great and the crunchy texture of the fish skin after being deep fried was absolutely great. The fresh retained is flavour well and I found joy lapping up the syrupy sauce.

To add more bulk to our meals, we order Beehoon Goreng or fried rice noodles. It has very nice "Wok hey" flavours and is quite different to our local variant that is dyed in a red hue. There is nice amount of vegetables and chicken chunks. Tasty and rustic simple local fare.

A group shot of the dishes that filled up the entire table is too many to fit into my camera lens. We came in hungry and tired and left relaxed and satisfied.

Sindang Reret is a nice relaxing restaurant and a perfect stopover to rest the weary legs after visiting Kawah Putih. Cleanliness is a big concern for me when I am travelling and this place has all the right ticks, clean, tasty, nice ambiance and affordable. Ordering can be challenging but it was doable with the restaurant manager whom can speak some decent English. Do consider this place during your trip to Kawah Putih!
