Food review: Tosca Italian Trattoria @ Doubletree Johor Bahru (JB) ~ Premier dining destination in JB

One of the premier dining destinations on the 13th floor of Doubletree by Hilton Johor Bahru is the Tosca Italian Trattoria restaurant. Offering views of the straits and a decadent atmosphere, this is definitely one of the classy establishments you can dine in Johor Bahru. We check it out during Christmas day and see if it is worth its dough.

We arrived early before the crowd pours in to have a sneak peak at the flavours on offer and admire the contemporary setting of the restaurant.

The decor is stylish and befitting of a posh dining establishment.

A beautiful island bar take center stage in the restaurant and is well stock with liqueurs and aperitifs.

Our buffet dining come with a glass of white or red wine.

A closer look at the intimate table setting. We were each given a gift box which contain party accessories like masks and the sort.

We weren't here for only the atmosphere and decor so lets proceed to check out the food. Italian was the theme of the night and there were many antipasti on offer, all of which were beautifully curated.

For cheese lovers, a  small selection was available .

Seafood on ice included snow crab legs, crayfish and prawns. The crayfish and prawns were unfortunately not the freshest with mushy meat and were complete letdowns. The crab legs was all right but made very difficult to consume as they did not provide the crab leg scissors.

The most popular item which garnered snaking queues was the oysters. They were plump and freshly shucked by the chefs. The process is slow but the wait was worth it.

We could not resist the pearl creating critters and went back several time for seconds.

The craving station looks great and made me salivate while looking at the delicious cuts of beef and turkey. Very sadly, the meat was the direct opposite of "don't judge a book by its cover" as they prove to be rather dry and drizzling ample sauce did not save it for the day.

Being Italian theme, pizzas are customary and the thin crusted dough is thankfully not a let down.

Apart from the meats, there are grilled dishes and also fish served in the patio area. There is a heavy use of Italian herbs and garnishing used in the dishes. The way to describe these cooked dishes is that they appear much nicer than they taste.

At the outdoor area is where you will also find the live cooking station that prepare your desired pasta a la minute.

My risotto was served al dente and nothing I can be too critical about.

The only saving grace to the buffet will be the large selection of dessert. They proved popular among patrons as they were snapped up quickly.

Service in my opinion can be better as we had to signal to the waiter to clear our tables. There is no soft drinks and only water is served which seems to be a bit stingy. A great addition to the dessert section will definitely be ice cream. In all, to say I am disappointed will be an understatement. With the price paid, I definitely can get better offerings in Singapore.
